National Park Service
Overview
The National Park Service is one of eight Department of the Interior bureaus. NPS works to preserve and protect the United States’ most prominent natural, historical and cultural resources. NPS oversees 380 locations covering 83 million acres across the US and its territories.
The inside scoop
Since the National Park Service is popular and competitive, you may have a better chance of landing a permanent position by taking up a temporary or seasonal job.
It varies by park, but applications generally open for the summer season between October and February, and winter positions between July and August.
Some of the larger parks receive hundreds of applications for only a handful of openings, so your chances for selection may improve if you apply to a smaller park.
